Yesterday marked seven years without his physical presence, but now that March 7th has passed, the nausea and deep fatigue that set in earlier this week is beginning to wane.
The sun was kind enough to make an appearance for my weekly forest walk with the chocolate lab yesterday morning.
Strolling along the creekside trail, taking it slow for a change, fully present to nature's healing elements. Recognizing and breathing in the early signs of spring, of renewal. Chirping birds, filtered sunshine, purling creek, and flowering bulbs bursting forth through the decay - sights and sounds to nourish my soul.
For dinner, as we have done on each anniversary, our family replicated the
simple meal of chicken fajitas that Michael and Kelly had prepared for us the evening before they left for that
fateful cabin weekend. A meaningful way for us to mark this day.
With yesterday behind us, and spring just around the corner, we embrace the additional light and renewed life before us.

Healing Energy for All
Outside of my native Vancouver, the city of Paris lies closest to my heart. I have never lived there but have treasured memories of visiting over the decades. I have always felt a strong connection to everything French, perhaps due, in part, to previous incarnations. The sights, sounds and smells of Paris resonate deeply. Its lively neighbourhoods, magnificent museums, striking architecture, incredible food and lovely public spaces, to say nothing of the beautiful language and passionate people, all contribute to the vibrant pulse of this beloved city.
So when the tragic news of malicious attacks in Paris erupted on Friday, my heart broke. It broke for the innocent victims. It broke for my beloved city of love and lights. It broke for humanity.
And later, upon learning that many of the dead had been young people in their twenties and thirties, an added layer of sadness descended over me while thinking of all the mothers and fathers who will have to endure the added grief of losing their child.
The card I wrote, the flowers I placed, the love I send will not undo the damage done, but with millions of people around the world doing the same, collectively we imprint healing energy on everyone affected, including ourselves.

Powerful Antidote
Another rewarding evening spent at the International Spiritualist Alliance. Only a small number of us showed up for the open circle session to practice our connection with spirit. This resulted in a great deal of hands-on experience for all. It began with a guided meditation to help ground and prepare us. This was followed by energy work in the form of expanding auras, sensing spirit, and giving psychometry readings. We closed with a lengthy healing meditation sending energy to those within the room, as well as to people in our greater community who could also benefit. The evening served as a powerful antidote to the challenging energy I had encountered earlier in the day. How grateful am I? Very.

Exquisite Experience
One of my daughters recently sent me a photo of a hummingbird perched on her shoe. Yes, her shoe. When we spoke the following day, she filled me in. Since then, I have thought about her incredible story daily. She and her husband were up at their cabin when suddenly, a hummingbird flew in through the open sliding door, way up into the vaulted ceiling. Flying around up there, it came into contact with dust and cobwebs, before eventually returning to ground level, coming to rest upon one of my daughter's unoccupied shoes. Moments later, her husband carried that shoe with the bird out to the deck. Surprisingly, the hummingbird went along for the ride. That was the image captured in the picture. However, the truly amazing part of the story was yet to come. While the bird remained on the shoe, my daughter reached over and with her fingers carefully began removing one tiny particle of debris at a time. The hummingbird stayed put. After the cleaning, it lingered for another few minutes, then off it flew. When my daughter described this scene to me, I was astonished. I have had many close encounters with hummingbirds, those messengers of healing, love, hope and joy, but I have never even heard of anything like this. Feeling its heartbeat and being in such close proximity to those brilliant iridescent feathers - I can only imagine. I continue to marvel at what is possible.

A Hummingbird's Gifts
December 6th. This date eliciting happy childhood memories of annual Nikolaus celebrations, together with other German speaking families. Today, unpacking Christmas boxes, while holding my granddaughter in my arms. Sorting through countless ornaments and decorations. Coming across my son's stocking. Wondering what I might do with it. Something or nothing? Trying to keep the anxiety at bay. Focusing on the beauty in my life. Then, glancing out the kitchen window. Noticing a precious hummingbird landing on the nearby feeder. These exquisite birds symbolizing so much. Incorporated into legends and myths throughout the Americas. When in flight, wingtips tracing out the infinity sign. Messengers between worlds, representing immortality. Bringing uplifting energies of hope, joy, healing, and love. This tiny creature filling my heart, and nourishing my spirit. Sharing treasured gifts by its mere presence.

Recipe for Healing
At a family lakeside cabin, mix together the following with great care:
66 friends and family
18 holes of golf
183 mulligans
1 heavily laden table of delicious food
Many helping hands
Dozens and dozens of donations
Pockets full of generosity
Add 5 tents and 1 roaring campfire. Drizzle lightly for a few minutes and toss in 2 claps of thunder, under mainly sunny skies. Stir with Love. The worthwhile result is many bolstered hearts and close to $3000 raised for Canuck Place Children's Hospice.
(Update June 20th: the actual amount we raised together was $3333!)
