Family Time at the Cabin
During our recent cabin vacation, there was a late evening conversation with family members about Michael's spirit coming through at an ISA gathering a few weeks ago. For over an hour we talked about how highly detailed a medium's descriptions and messages from spirit can be, and we discussed the meaningful information received. Then, with bedtime approaching, it was time to let out the dog so one of Mike's relatives opened the front door and turned on the porch light, only to discover it promptly flashing on and off in uneven bursts of light for quite some time, before going completely dark and remaining so. We were all within view and our first thought while watching the spectacle was that maybe it was a burned out bulb, but simultaneously processing that they don't die out in that fashion. We soon understood what was going on, as this playing with light had occurred many times since Michael's death, to various family members in numerous locations, during times of conscious spiritual connection to him. However, this was a first for us at our cabin. The next morning, I flicked on the light switch to check out the bulb, and of course, it was totally fine and continued to shine, without incident, for the remaining week of our vacation. Another illuminating example of spirit interacting on a physical level. Mike reminding his family that he was right there with us. Too much fun!

Seven Years
Yesterday marked seven years without his physical presence, but now that March 7th has passed, the nausea and deep fatigue that set in earlier this week is beginning to wane.
The sun was kind enough to make an appearance for my weekly forest walk with the chocolate lab yesterday morning. Strolling along the creekside trail, taking it slow for a change, fully present to nature's healing elements. Recognizing and breathing in the early signs of spring, of renewal. Chirping birds, filtered sunshine, purling creek, and flowering bulbs bursting forth through the decay - sights and sounds to nourish my soul.
For dinner, as we have done on each anniversary, our family replicated the simple meal of chicken fajitas that Michael and Kelly had prepared for us the evening before they left for that fateful cabin weekend. A meaningful way for us to mark this day.
With yesterday behind us, and spring just around the corner, we embrace the additional light and renewed life before us.

Loving Message Received
While lying on a mat, stretching out after boot camp this morning, I considered my next stop - visiting Boal Memorial, to place flowers and a balloon in honour of Michael's birthday. Gazing at the ceiling, I was drawn to one of the pot lights mounted up there. As I continued staring at it, I felt my connection with the bright light building. I sensed the strong beam that existed between the light fixture and I. Soon, the energy filled my entire being. Underlying that sensation was the awareness that my son was using this moment to show me that our energetic connection remains unbroken. Such a loving message received on a sweat-stained gym floor.

Summer Storm
Shortly before midnight, I was awakened by a rare summer storm. It was not the rumbling of the thunder that lured me out of the comfort of my bed, but rather, the intense lightening. So extreme, that each flash lit up the inside of my entire house, due to the full glass walls at the back and numerous clerestory windows along the sides. Light spilled down through the skylight, as well.
I ventured outside in my robe to fully experience the magnitude of Mother Nature's show. Rain poured down the rain chains into the stones below, creating a vertical river in my backyard. In the absence of any wind, the gigantic evergreens seemed to stand at attention, each lightening flash flooding them fully. It was as if the trees were posing to have their majestic presence captured by a heavenly photographer. Viewing this entire spectacle with awe, I briefly wondered if I would meet the skunks or bear that had recently visited here.
Within the hour, the storm had passed, and the darkness returned. The river, reduced to a trickle. I wandered back to bed and considered how fortunate I was to have witnessed such unexpected beauty. This morning I recalled that just before going to bed, I had entered a contest to win a winter storm watching getaway. Perhaps last night was just a taste of things to come.

Letting the Light Shine In
Experiencing another week on the roller-coaster of intense highs and lows. Continuing to work with the graphic designer, readying my book for print - necessitating combing through each page repeatedly, resulting in understandably heightened emotions. Marking another Mother's Day - visiting with my daughters and extended family, four generations of mothers and their children gathered together. Organizing the upcoming memorial golf tournament, resulting in daily opportunities to reconnect with community and friends. At times, I feel weighed down by the more difficult aspects of these endeavours. Then, as I began writing this post, out in the sunshine this afternoon, I recognized that woven under, over and around all the challenges are the nourishing elements of support, love, and gratitude. All those involved are mutually giving and receiving these life-sustaining energies. Support. Love. Gratitude. All opening the door to let the light shine in.

Expanding Perceptions
It had been months since I last took part in an ISA evening, and was therefore keen to go earlier this week. The thirteen of us in attendance placed our chairs in a circle, and participated in a group meditation. Familiar images and concepts appeared in my mind's eye, including: the infinity symbol; vibrant pink and gold energy; the inescapable link between love and pain. An entirely new experience also awaited me, related to all of the above. I noticed an androgynous energy-being, appearing as an opaque white light with elongated head and limbs, standing behind me. After resting its hands on my shoulders for a while, it moved around to face me. Soon, I became aware that my gold locket, containing photos of Michael and Kelly, was gently swinging back and forth. At first, I felt confused, but that confusion quickly turned to astonishment when I realized that the light-being was physically moving my piece of jewellery! I acknowledged this act with gratitude, thanking the being for enabling me to have another magnificent spiritual experience. By staying open to possibilities, my perceptions of existence continue to expand.

Labyrinth Insights
Located in a dark gym, last week's solstice labyrinth was erected using seven hundred small paper bags, each containing a candle, placed about a foot apart on the floor. I entered the complex, winding route with one simple intention: to be open to receive. Proceeding with clear mind, soft gaze and measured steps, the poignant insights and appreciated reminders arrived.
✪ There are many lights in my life including my husband, daughters, son-in-laws, granddaughter, brother, good friends, and extended family.
✪ Michael's light and mine both shine brightly enough to touch each other, and in this way, we are never apart.
✪ Passing by the people walking towards me along this path full of twists and turns, I was reminded that we are all proceeding towards enlightenment at our own pace, in our own way.
✪ One light is of great value and able to make a huge difference, however, many lights functioning together have the potential to create something greater than the sum of its parts.
Halfway through this walking meditation I intuitively brought my hands together in prayer, and held them thus 'til the end, symbolizing connection to all, visible and invisible - to the others in the room, to those who had gone before me, to those yet to come. Our lights were all shining together, producing one bigger and brighter light. Upon leaving, I felt gratitude for the numerous volunteers who had conceived, produced, and administered this labyrinth. The vibrational rates of the hundreds and hundreds of people wandering this path were raised, helping to elevate humanity as a whole. Returning outdoors, I felt connected to all that is, and today, I hold this experience in my soul as I prepare to step into the new year.

Winter's Light
Winter has blown in with the promise of longer days, and shorter nights. Tonight will find me in the city, wandering through a winter solstice labyrinth, created with over 700 candles. A perfect way to celebrate the light within, as well as illuminate all the joy and love that surrounds me.

Divine Illumination
Waking with lingering impressions of a particularly clear and poignant dream. In it, travelling with the trailer, just as we currently are. However, in this scenario, stopping en route for a short layover at our cabin. Running into one of Michael's friends who actually lives in that area. Asking me if he and a buddy could spend the night with us, in our cottage. Explaining that it is a little too hectic at his family's home right now. Replying, "Of course, anytime." Sensing this young man's compassionate nature, while receiving his big bear hug from behind. He wanting to know how I was doing. Assuring him that I was well, and thanking him for inquiring. A short time later, all of us relaxing around the fire outdoors. Soon after, his sister unexpectedly stopping by with a gift. Extending her hand, and offering me a ring. Mentioning that when first spotting it, she had instantly known it was meant for me. A perfect, round stone, mounted upon a smooth gold band. Somewhat pearl-like in appearance. Its lower half, slate grey in colour. The upper portion, glowing brilliant white. Immediately understanding the powerful symbolism. Even with, or possibly due to, underlying darkness, there exists in life an equal measure of beauty and light. This dream casting divine illumination on the day ahead.

I'm Right Here
Enjoying a dynamic conversation with a young woman recently. Someone I had never spoken to. She initiating the contact. Calling me after receiving prompting by spirit. Not personally acquainted with Michael or Kelly before they passed. Only hearing of their existence from a friend. Now on the phone with me, relaying experiences of spirit connection. The first occurring on the eve of the memorial golf tournament last June. Spending the night with two friends. Sleeping in a home with a connection to Kelly. Waking to her legs being shaken. With powerful energy. Sitting up and noticing a young man standing at the foot of the bed. Hearing him say, "I'm right here." Observing a young woman quietly standing nearby. Understanding she was seeing Mike and Kelly. People she had never met. In the morning, discussing it with friends who had known the two. Receiving confirmation about what she had surmised. A second incident occurring last week. A voice suggesting, "You need to talk to my mom." Again recognizing Mike. Unsure of the reason behind the advise. Listening to her intuition. Following through. Not long into our conversation, understanding why. Later, conveying a related incident to her. Describing the experience my husband had around that time last year. Being roused from his sleep. By a voice speaking those exact same three words. "I'm right here." Feeling his son standing at the foot of the bed! All of these occurrences showing further evidence of eternal existence. These individuals open to experiencing it. In love and light.

Pink and Gold Bruised Heart
Coming up on twelve months. Searching for the word to best describe this mother's heart. Some in this situation referring to theirs as being scarred. Implying lack of hope for further healing. Personally not to viewing it that way. Neither wounded nor damaged accurately expressing it either. Earlier this week, settling on bruised. A piece of my heart now feeling deeply and severely bruised. Along with the expected corresponding ache and vulnerability. Likely both lifelong companions. Fully accepting that. The greater part of my heart still thoroughly capable of giving and receiving love. Then a couple of days ago, experiencing an added dimension. During yoga, in Savasana, with mind's eye fully opened. Perceiving an abundance of soft pink energy infusing my heart. Interspersed with swirling strands of gold. Filling the space beyond capacity. Flowing in and out in every direction. Once again, witnessing the spiritual body supporting the emotional and physical ones. With the powerful energies of light and love.

Playing With Light
Driving down the freeway to the International Spiritualist Alliance with three passengers the other night. Two of them inviting themselves along to experience this environment for the first time. Curious about mediumship demonstration and receiving messages from spirit. En route, briefly describing the process to them and what they could expect. Midway through this conversation, passing through a tunnel. Emerging from there to discover every one of the dozens of streetlights repeatedly flashing on and off in unison. This activity continuing alongside and ahead of us for the next few kilometres. Our group of four expressing amazement. Remarking that this was something none of us had ever witnessed, anywhere. Then sharing a good laugh when recognizing the likely forces behind this playing with the light. Happily witnessing the magic of spirit connection long before arriving at our destination.

Sun's Kiss
The two of us ambling along through the forest yesterday afternoon. Close to the river's edge. Silently enjoying the unhurried pace. Bundled up in down vest and gloves. Approaching a clearing in the trees. Slowing down even further. My face instinctively angling itself towards the sun. Like the potted plant on the kitchen sill. Keen to absorb the maximum available warmth and light. Continuing to walk with eyes closed. Lost in the moment. Deeply appreciating this kiss of life.

Candlelight Magic
The beauty of candlelight. Simply magical. Surrounding myself with it as often as possible. Especially this time of year. More than thirty candles placed in the living/dining area alone. Creating an enchanting ambiance. Not reserved for special occasions. Enjoying their bewitching flames daily. Down the hall, an entire pine cabinet dedicated to this endeavour. Storing additional tapers, pillars and tea lights, along with numerous holders. Affectionately known as The Candle Cupboard. These candles providing such warmth and splendour. Breathing life into the darkness.

Luminous Occasion
Winter Solstice. Our northern hemisphere experiencing the longest night of the year. From here on in, less darkness, more light. Definitely worth celebrating. Festivals, rituals, and gatherings marking this occasion around the world. One such event taking place tonight in the Chinese Gardens downtown. Complete with lanterns and live music. Planning on heading over to enjoy the luminous affair. Adding fuel to the internal flame. Helping to keep it burning bright.

Michael Makes an Appearance
Showing himself last night. For the first time, appearing to me in a dream. Wherein a dozen of his friends were gathering on the grass in front of our home. Male and female. Soon following me inside. Making their way into the living room. Joining hands to form a circle. Supporting each other. Me, proceeding into the kitchen alone. Seeing my son standing there. Wearing jeans and a long sleeved pale pink shirt. Looking just as he had before he passed. My mind instantly processing that his friends were unable to see him. Then picking up on his thoughts. Sensing the pride he was feeling for all of them helping each other through this ordeal. Such a powerful dream leaving me deeply moved. This morning, speaking to one of his sisters. She describing her evening at the townhouse last night. Baking banana bread while listening to songs that reminded her of Mike. Later, together with her husband in the living room, watching the slide show that had played at his service. Suddenly distracted by an intense white ball of light hovering in the kitchen. The size of a grapefruit. Seconds later, seeing it explode, filling the entire room with a brilliant flash of light. Then disappearing. Same evening. Same rooms involved. Two completely different events. Very likely related. Both of us feeling connected and thankful today.

Lighter Energy
Much lighter energy today, inside and out. Over sushi and sake, heartfelt conversation with an understanding friend helped lighten my spirits. Meanwhile, the sun is beginning to work it's magic infusing my body with warmth and optimism. Fully appreciating moments like this helps me better navigate the difficult ones.
